Ah… It’s hard to put my finger on when i really got exposed to korean media. As far as i can remember my first korean drama was Stairway To Heaven. Yes, that crazy, insanely, tears-inducing, award-winning drama. I’m not proud to say this – but i didn’t actually watch the whole drama per say. I watched the first 5 episodes, gave up and went to the last episode. Wait, Before you start shooting me down, in my defense i have to say that it was a necessary action. Have you ever heard of people describing a drama so sad that they used up a whole tissue box of tissues? I used to scoff at that idea but, it finally happened to me. I was crying from the first episode till the fifth episode. I was worried about what would happen to my eyes. It had to stop.
Anyway, that was my first acquaintance with korean media. That was about 8 years ago. Then there came Goong. I must say that even looking back, it was a great drama right till the end as far as i can remember. I’m sure it wasn’t perfect but let’s leave that for another time. The OST of that drama propelled me into korean music. Even now i listen to Perhaps Love – Howl feat. J. Have a listen if you haven’t already.
Well, at that time i was only really listening to OSTs of the dramas i watched, the K-wave in my country was just beginning to occur. My first real taste of Kpop came from DBSK (with all 5 members). My friend introduced me to their music but at first i was all “Oh gee, a boyband” and it took me about a year to realise how good they really were. I was literally blown away and could kick myself for dismissing them initially. I have a huge urge to go on about them but let’s put that aside. Ever since then, my life has been filled with everything korean, from my playlists to the food i eat.
And well, the rest is, as they say, history (by EXO K).
P.S OK. my first post on a pretty much blank blog (which i will beautify as much as my I.T skills allow me). Please go easy on me. =X
